A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Kasarani
A community-led a sensory garden for children with autism at Jacaranda Park that will serve 465 neighbors.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Jacaranda Park, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $150.
It will serve about 465 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $150 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $25
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Tools hire and delivery: $90

Sending good thoughts, Opio. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. After 28 years in nursing I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Atlanta
Praying for you. I hope things turn around soon. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Kasarani.
Wishing you peace. Hope you get there. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Love from Phuket.
