A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Bilbao
Volunteers in Bilbao are raising $2,650 for a sensory garden for children with autism at Freedom Park.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Freedom Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $720, and the remaining cost is $2,650.
It will serve about 166 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in January and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,650 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $250
• Safety equipment and signage: $115
• Materials: $2,285
