A repair café workshop for the Acacia vacant lot: help our neighbors in San Jose
A community-led a repair café workshop at the Acacia vacant lot that will serve 388 neighbors.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $840, and the remaining cost is $800.
It will serve about 388 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $800 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $230
• Safety equipment and signage: $400
• Permits and inspections: $170
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
