A ramp for Yohannes: volunteers and tools needed

Help Yohannes regain independence: a simple ramp build.

Yohannes has used a wheelchair since 2024, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Yohannes can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the building-code slope requirement, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate six hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Yohannes's family will cook lunch for the team. I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Sending strength, Genet. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. God bless

    • Praying for you, Genet. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Blessings.

      • Stay strong. Shared this with my family. Put this on a community board in Kano this morning.

        • Sending good thoughts. Get well soon. Greetings from Los Angeles.

          • So sorry you're going through this. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. After 7 years in accounting I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Blessings.
