A ramp for Xolani: volunteers and tools needed

Materials are donated. We need two carpenters and a helper for a weekend in Johannesburg.

Xolani has used a wheelchair since 2023, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Xolani can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the building-code slope requirement, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate eight hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Xolani's family will cook lunch for the team. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Keep going, Tracey. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. All the best.

    • Hang in there, Tracey. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.

      • Praying for you, Tracey. It takes guts to ask. Well done.

        • Thanks for sharing this, Tracey. Hope you get there.

          • Wishing you the best, Tracey. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
