A ramp for Marlene: volunteers and tools needed

Materials are donated. We need two carpenters and a helper for a weekend in Pretoria.

Marlene has used a wheelchair since 2023, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Marlene can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the accessibility guideline for gradient, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate twelve hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Marlene's family will cook lunch for the team. Glad we found this place.

  • Thanks for sharing this, Fiona. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Blessings!

    • Sending strength, Fiona. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Love from Kanpur

      • hope things get better soon, Fiona. Your post was clear and honest. All the best

        • Get well soon. After 11 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care.
