A rainwater harvesting system for the Jacaranda vacant lot: help our neighbors in Cairo
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at the Jacaranda vacant lot that will serve 244 neighbors.
🇪🇬 Cairo, Cairo, Egypt913 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $450.
It will serve about 244 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $450 goes:
• Materials: $360
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Safety equipment and signage: $20
• Tools hire and delivery: $35
Every share and every dollar helps.

Good news. Because of your gifts ($25 in total) I made the first payment toward materials. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Thank you all. We're at 12% now ($55). I'm honestly stunned. the plan for permits and inspections is now scheduled. - Dina
