A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Sydney
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at the Acacia community hall that will serve 508 neighbors.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 13 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $3,650.
It will serve about 508 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $3,650 goes:
• Materials: $3,000
• Permits and inspections: $170
• Safety equipment and signage: $210
• Tools hire and delivery: $270
