A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Medellín
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at Maple Park that will serve 469 neighbors.
🇨🇴 Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia381 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Maple Park, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $700.
It will serve about 469 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $700 goes:
• Materials: $410
• Permits and inspections: $30
• Safety equipment and signage: $125
• Tools hire and delivery: $135
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Best of luck, Marcos. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I have a 16 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.
