A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Madrid
Volunteers in Madrid are raising $2,500 for a rainwater harvesting system at the Baobab health centre yard.
Anywhere in the world288 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,500.
It will serve about 205 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Materials: $1,900
• Permits and inspections: $220
• Safety equipment and signage: $260
• Tools hire and delivery: $120
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
