A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Istanbul

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Acacia Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $320, and the remaining cost is $650. It will serve about 130 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $650 goes: • Materials: $430 • Permits and inspections: $95 • Safety equipment and signage: $80 • Tools hire and delivery: $45 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
