A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Hawassa
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a rainwater harvesting system - we need $300 for materials.
🇪🇹 Ethiopia147 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 523 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
• Materials: $220
• Permits and inspections: $30
I hope life is good to you.
