A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Colorado Springs
Volunteers in Colorado Springs are raising $2,450 for a rainwater harvesting system at the Harmony vacant lot.
🇺🇸 Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States660 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Harmony vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $2,450.
It will serve about 563 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,450 goes:
• Materials: $1,300
• Permits and inspections: $260
• Safety equipment and signage: $450
• Tools hire and delivery: $440
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.
