Tadeusz was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in April. The surgeon at Katowice Orthopedic Institute recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,300, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,600 short. my husband has been in and out of Katowice Orthopedic Institute since April. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,300 is more than we can find. While we wait, Tadeusz struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Tadeusz won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
