I live with an amputation below the knee. My occupational therapist at the Laredo Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a pair of hearing aids. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $9,000.
My current equipment is 9 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 4 weeks.
With the right equipment I could speak with the people around him. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $9,000 goes:
• Fitting and training sessions: $340
• pair of hearing aids: $8,500
• First-year servicing plan: $160
