After fleeing Myanmar, the Sahin family has arrived in Verona with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

My family left Myanmar 14 months ago after we could no longer live safely. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Verona. We're a family of five and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in December. I was a nurse in Myanmar, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Verona Welcome Table charity, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $1,100 goes: • Language classes and bus passes: $500 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $90 • Beds, table and basic furniture: $510 Thank you so much.

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Ihor.

Sure. The biggest one is language classes and bus passes, $500. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Good question.

  • Sending strength, Ihor. It takes guts to ask. Well done. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.

    • Good luck. This could happen to any of us. After 24 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
