A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Rennes
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $2,850 for materials.
🇫🇷 Rennes, Brittany, France3,075 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Harmony Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $630, and the remaining cost is $2,850.
It will serve about 230 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,850 goes:
• Materials: $2,400
• Permits and inspections: $95
• Safety equipment and signage: $210
• Tools hire and delivery: $145
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
