A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Nuremberg
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $4,200 for materials.
🇩🇪 Bavaria, Germany4,330 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $4,200.
It will serve about 191 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $4,200 goes:
• Materials: $3,000
• Permits and inspections: $360
• Safety equipment and signage: $360
• Tools hire and delivery: $480
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

shared this with my family. Greetings from Ribeirão Preto!
Thinking of you and your family. I hope things turn around soon. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Gazipur.
Sending love. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We're a small family in Wrocław but we're thinking of you. Take care.
rooting for you, Wolfgang. Gave what I could, wish it was more.
