A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Manila
Volunteers in Manila are raising $250 for a free library and reading room at the Union vacant lot.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Union vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $250.
It will serve about 189 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $250 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $65
• Materials: $170
• Permits and inspections: $15
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.
