A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Eindhoven
A community-led a free library and reading room at the Baobab health centre yard that will serve 247 neighbors.
🇳🇱 Netherlands3,629 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 19 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,200.
It will serve about 247 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $3,200 goes:
• Materials: $2,400
• Permits and inspections: $155
• Safety equipment and signage: $460
• Tools hire and delivery: $185
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Take care, Cornelis. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I'll check back for the next update. Blessings.
Praying for you. Great idea, hope you get there. My neighbor in Aurangabad donated after I showed her your page. Thinking of Eindhoven
So sorry you're going through this. More neighborhoods should do this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Take care
