East London
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Freedom Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $750. It will serve about 209 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $750 goes: • Safety equipment and signage: $50 • Permits and inspections: $60 • Materials: $640 Every share and every dollar helps. - Nadia
