A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Dhaka

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Pioneer health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $200. It will serve about 349 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $200 goes: • Permits and inspections: $35 • Safety equipment and signage: $20 • Materials: $145 Every share and every dollar helps.
