A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Bengaluru
Volunteers in Bengaluru are raising $750 for a free library and reading room at the old Harmony bus depot.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Harmony bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $750.
It will serve about 170 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $750 goes:
• Materials: $570
• Permits and inspections: $60
• Safety equipment and signage: $35
• Tools hire and delivery: $85
