A covered market stall space: a volunteer-led effort in Lagos
A community-led a covered market stall space at the Baobab community hall that will serve 532 neighbors.
🇳🇬 Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria1,724 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $100.
It will serve about 532 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $100 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $20
• Permits and inspections: $20
• Safety equipment and signage: $60
If you're reading this, thank you.

Thinking of you and your family, Chinedu. This could happen to any of us
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My neighbor in Toronto donated after I showed her your page. Blessings
Gave what I could, wish it was more. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Chinedu
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. tools hire and delivery is the biggest at $20. Fair thing to want to know.
Praying for you, Chinedu. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. I hope May is when things finally get easier.
How is Chinedu doing now?
thanks for sharing this. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I'll check back for the next update
Stay strong, Chinedu. Hope this works out for you. I'm in engineering myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Love from Mississauga.
good luck, Chinedu. Hope this works out for you
Sending strength. Great idea, hope you get there. Thinking of Lagos
