A covered market stall space: a volunteer-led effort in Johannesburg
Volunteers in Johannesburg are raising $900 for a covered market stall space at the Jacaranda health centre yard.
🇿🇦 Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa668 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $900.
It will serve about 574 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $900 goes:
• Materials: $680
• Permits and inspections: $85
• Safety equipment and signage: $30
• Tools hire and delivery: $105
If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.
