For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Maple Park, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $490, and the remaining cost is $2,900. It will serve about 149 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in January and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $2,900 goes: • Materials: $2,400 • Permits and inspections: $310 • Safety equipment and signage: $190 I hope life is good to you. - Taylor
