A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in San Jose
Volunteers in San Jose are raising $2,900 for a community garden at the old Freedom bus depot.
🇺🇸 California, United States2,572 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Freedom bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,900.
It will serve about 327 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,900 goes:
• Materials: $2,000
• Permits and inspections: $160
• Safety equipment and signage: $350
• Tools hire and delivery: $390
I hope life is good to you.

Wishing you the best, Ramón. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Sent it to 4 people at work. Take care.
