A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Bekasi
A community-led a community garden at Baobab Park that will serve 593 neighbors.
🇮🇩 West Java, Indonesia1,277 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Baobab Park, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $450.
It will serve about 593 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $450 goes:
• Materials: $260
• Permits and inspections: $55
• Safety equipment and signage: $75
• Tools hire and delivery: $60
