A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Saint Petersburg
A community-led a community fridge at Baobab Park that will serve 509 neighbors.
Anywhere in the world1,064 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Baobab Park, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $1,050.
It will serve about 509 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,050 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $90
• Materials: $910
• Safety equipment and signage: $50

I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Saint Petersburg.
Stay strong. I hope things turn around soon. I went through something like this 6 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Saint Petersburg.
