For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Lotus bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,000.
It will serve about 235 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Materials: $650
• Permits and inspections: $105
• Safety equipment and signage: $160
• Tools hire and delivery: $85
Every share and every dollar helps.
