I'm Gareth, 18, in Year 12. My parents work long hours and didn't go to university, so there's no one at home who can help me understand applications, deadlines or financial aid. I'd like to study computer science. I have a 3.9 average, I volunteer at the local library and I have a draft of my personal statement. What I need is someone to read my essays, tell me honestly what's weak, and explain how scholarships work. I'm looking for an hour a week until September. We can do it by video from anywhere. My mother will be at home during every call, and the school counselor knows about this request. Thanks for reading. It took me a long time to ask. I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

  • Wishing you the best, Gareth. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Soweto.

    • Sending love, Gareth. Hope you get there. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. God bless.

      • You're not alone, Gareth. I hope things turn around soon. I'm in logistics myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you

        • Take care. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't give up!

          • Hope things get better soon, Gareth. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'll check back for the next update. Take care.

            • Good luck with the exams, you've got this. After 16 years in logistics I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
