Every year the Refugee Welcome Picnic brings together 317 neighbors in Birmingham. I help organize it with 12 other volunteers, and this year our numbers are down. We need people for stewarding, first-aid support and clean-up. Shifts are two to three hours long and you can pick the one that suits you. Food and drinks are provided for all volunteers. It's a long-standing tradition, and our goal is to keep it free. No experience is necessary - we'll brief everyone at the start of the day. If you can come with a friend, even better. Please say in the comments which shift works for you. Thank you so much.

  • You're not alone, Evelyn. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Put this on a community board in Hyderabad this morning. Thinking of Birmingham.

    • Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out. Take care

      • Hope it all works out. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Please keep us posted. Greetings from Austin

So sorry you're going through this. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. After 30 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
