Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Thursday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 27 families, and now we feed 98 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 60% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 7 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Arusha market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $350 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $140
• Refrigeration and electricity: $20
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $190
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Hope it all works out. I hope things turn around soon. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Arusha.
