The Union canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This January, 34 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 125 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted. Where the $1,800 goes: • Signage and educational materials: $135 • Native saplings and stakes: $1,400 • Waste removal and skip hire: $265 Thanks for reading all this. - Keith

  • Sending strength. I hope things turn around soon. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Greetings from Mumbai.

    • Hope things get better soon, Keith. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Breda but we're thinking of you. God bless.

      • Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
