For three years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Sycamore Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $110, and the remaining cost is $600.
It will serve about 206 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $600 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $75
• Permits and inspections: $75
• Materials: $450
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
