Let's build a rainwater harvesting system together in Makassar
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at the Jacaranda community hall that will serve 515 neighbors.
🇮🇩 Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia1,906 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 515 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $300 goes:
• Materials: $190
• Permits and inspections: $20
• Safety equipment and signage: $30
• Tools hire and delivery: $60
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Good news. Because of your gifts ($170 in total) I made the first payment toward materials. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Any update on how things are going in Makassar?
Best of luck, Ika. Hope this works out for you. I have a 13 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Thinking of Makassar.
