In January I was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal. My surgeon at Madrid Community Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and I have been placed on the schedule for April. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $6,500, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $4,950 short. Doctors at Madrid Community Hospital told me a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without emergency hernia repair. I work as a hotel cleaner, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $6,500 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a hotel cleaner have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $4,950 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $190 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $1,700 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $210 • Post-operative medication: $170 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,680 If you're reading this, thank you.

      • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Sebastián

        • Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. physiotherapy sessions comes first ($190) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. It helps to be asked.
