I'm caring for my mother, who's 79. After a diagnosis of dementia Ghada can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Ghada desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Ghada worked all of her life as a shopkeeper, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $800
• Medication and prescriptions: $125
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $55
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $120

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Ghada.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. part-time carer (eight months) is the biggest at $800. It helps to be asked.
