The Open Hands Pantry pantry in San Jose is running low just as demand rises; $3,050 will stock it for 7 weeks.

Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Friday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 15 families, and now we feed 364 each week. Donations have dropped by about 60% this winter, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 6 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the San Jose market and keep every receipt. Each $40 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $3,050 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,600 • Refrigeration and electricity: $160 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,290 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.
