Feed 234 families each week at Open Hands Pantry in Parramatta
Help keep a free food pantry open for elderly neighbors in Parramatta.
🇦🇺 Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia2,031 views
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Wednesday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 20 families, and now we feed 234 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 30% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 7 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Parramatta market and keep every receipt.
Each $30 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $2,550 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,100
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $610
• Baby formula and diapers: $550
• Refrigeration and electricity: $290
Thanks for reading all this.

Thank you all. We're at 69% now ($1,763). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward fresh vegetables and fruit.

Keep going, Satish. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. All the best.
Rooting for you, Satish. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Greetings from Half-Way Tree.
