Since 2021, our volunteer team has run the Harvest Pantry every Wednesday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 163 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 40% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 16 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Toronto market and keep every receipt.
Each $55 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $3,850 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $2,000
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,300
• Baby formula and diapers: $270
• Refrigeration and electricity: $280
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

thinking of you and your family, Benjamin. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Thinking of Toronto
Hope things get better soon, Benjamin. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Put this on a community board in Los Angeles this morning.
