A youth football pitch: a volunteer-led effort in Tampa
A community-led a youth football pitch at Liberty Park that will serve 163 neighbors.
Anywhere in the world956 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a youth football pitch. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Liberty Park, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $750.
It will serve about 163 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $750 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $140
• Tools hire and delivery: $380
• Permits and inspections: $230
Glad we found this place.

Best of luck, Elias. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Greetings from Toronto.
can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Tampa
Thank you. If you're in Tampa I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. It helps to be asked.
Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Thinking of Tampa
Sending love, Elias. I hope things turn around soon. After 26 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care.
You're not alone, Elias. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier.
