A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Palmira
Volunteers in Palmira are raising $150 for a solar-powered water pump at the Liberty health centre yard.
🇨🇴 Palmira, Valle del Cauca, Colombia792 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $150.
It will serve about 460 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $150 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $25
• Safety equipment and signage: $60
• Tools hire and delivery: $65
Glad we found this place.
