A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Fortaleza
Volunteers in Fortaleza are raising $850 for a sensory garden for children with autism at the Acacia health centre yard.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $850.
It will serve about 161 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $850 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $90
• Permits and inspections: $50
• Materials: $710
