A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Cologne
Volunteers in Cologne are raising $2,450 for a sensory garden for children with autism at Harmony Primary School.
🇩🇪 Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany1,209 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 16 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Harmony Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,250, and the remaining cost is $2,450.
It will serve about 375 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in January and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,450 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $400
• Permits and inspections: $330
• Materials: $1,720

Gave what I could, wish it was more. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Greetings from Milan.
can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Cologne!
Thank you. If you're in Cologne I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. It helps to be asked.
Best of luck, Emil. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. God bless.
Take care, Emil. Shared it with a few friends.
