A free library and reading room for the Lotus vacant lot: help our neighbors in Manchester
Volunteers in Manchester are raising $1,600 for a free library and reading room at the Lotus vacant lot.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom1,879 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $1,600.
It will serve about 400 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,600 goes:
• Materials: $900
• Permits and inspections: $190
• Safety equipment and signage: $240
• Tools hire and delivery: $270
I hope life is good to you.
