A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Los Angeles
Volunteers in Los Angeles are raising $2,700 for a community garden at the old Union bus depot.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Union bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,700.
It will serve about 405 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,700 goes:
• Materials: $1,650
• Permits and inspections: $350
• Safety equipment and signage: $290
• Tools hire and delivery: $410

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. materials comes first ($1,650) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid.
