A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Jakarta Barat

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Liberty Park, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $550. It will serve about 235 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in March and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $550 goes: • Safety equipment and signage: $55 • Materials: $450 • Permits and inspections: $45 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Lia
