Mekelle
Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Sunday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 11 families, and now we feed 174 each week. Donations have dropped by about 41% this winter, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 13 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Mekelle market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $550 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $250 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $160 • Baby formula and diapers: $70 • Refrigeration and electricity: $70 Thanks for being kind about this. - Teklu

Thanks for sharing this, Teklu. I hope things turn around soon. Wish I lived closer to Curitiba so I could bring a meal. All the best

Hang in there. It takes guts to ask. Well done. After 13 years in construction I know how hard it is to ask for anything
