Valve repair surgery for Bayu: covering what insurance won't
Bayu needs valve repair surgery at Bandung Orthopedic Institute and the family is $550 short of the hospital's estimate.

Bayu was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in August. The surgeon at Bandung Orthopedic Institute recommended valve repair surgery, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $690, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $550 short.
my father has been in and out of Bandung Orthopedic Institute since August. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $690 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Bayu struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Bayu won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.

• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $370
• Travel and lodging for the family: $60
• Physiotherapy sessions: $65
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $55

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Bayu.
Sure. The biggest one is surgeon and anesthesia fees, $370. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.
